المجتمع العراقي ليس بمنأى عن الاثار الوخيمة لثقافة العنف والتناحر والامتثال التي اجتاحت معظم دول المنطقة بصورة عامة، والعراق بصورة خاصة، نظراً لما للشعب العراقي من مأثر وروابط واواصر كأن يؤمل ان تمثل بمجموعها ضمانة وحصانة تحول دون الانجرار الى اتون العنف والتناحر، فضلا عن ما تميز به المجتمع العراقي عبر مسيرته الثقافية والاجتماعية والتاريخية من تسامح وتكافل وتعاضد وايثار واكرام.
ويعد التسامح احد الفضائل الاخلاقية التي ترتقي بالنفس البشرية الى مرتبة انسانية سامية تتحلى بالعفو واحترام ثقافة الاخر، وهو ضرورة اجتماعية لما له من اهمية بالغة في حماية النسيج الاجتماعي لضمان تحقيق السلم الاهلي والامن الاجتماعي والقضاء على الخلافات والصراعات بين الافراد والجماعات.
والتسامح هو المفهوم الشامل والمضاد لمعظم الظواهر الاجتماعية التي تؤثر سلباً على الدول والمجتمعات والانسان بشكل عام، وتعمل على النيل من حريته وكرامته بل واحيانا من حياته الناتجة في معظمها من نقيض التسامح، التعصب بكافة اشكاله ودوافعه، التسامح في نهاية المطاف يعني الديمقراطية وحرية الرأي والرأي الاخر والتعايش السلمي بين المعتقدات والاجناس المختلفة، وتقبل الاخر كما هو.
ومن هذا المنطلق جاءت فكرة البحث لمعرفة الدور الذي تقوم به الفضائيات العراقية في تعزيز قيم التسامح من الناحية الفكرية والسياسية والاجتماعية والدينية، فضلا عن التعرف على ابرز قيم التسامح التي تحاول القنوات الفضائية العراقية تسليط الضوء عليها لاسيما بعد الاحداث الاخيرة التي شهدها العراق.
